A few good books…

This weekend I read two good books. Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin and Dead and Gone (Sookie Stackhouse Series #9) by Charlaine Harris.

I am new to the world of Emily Giffin but I had read multiple recommendations of her books so I decided to grab this book from the library. I’m definitely not sorry I did! It was a great story line and a definite page turner. I finished this book in just a few hours. I did struggle with the premise of the book a little. Rachel is best friends with Darcy who is getting married in September. On the night of Rachel’s birthday she ends up in bed with Darcy’s fiance Dex. They start having an affair. Even though I should of seen the ending coming, I totally didn’t and that made the book even better once I got over the whole cheating issue! I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Something Blue.

The second book I read was the latest book in the Sookie Stackhouse series. Twilight turned me on to a whole new genre of books, Paranormal Romance. I was a really big vampire and paranormal fan in high school. I read all of Stephen King and Anne Rice’s books in a single summer a very long time ago but hadn’t read anything like that recently. I loved the first Twilight book so much and decided I wanted to read more books like it, so I took a lot of suggestions from fellow readers and browsed one of my favorite sites GoodReads.com. I was armed with a very long list and have been engrossed in the genre for a few months now. The Sookie Stackhouse series has quite a few similarites to the Twilight series. There are vampires and shapeshifters and the female heroine is constantly in danger from one group or another. The Sookie books are a great fun and quick read. They lack the emotion the Twilight series had for me, but the books are well written and humorous. Sookie’s current Relationship with the Blond haired, blue eyed, nordic vampire kept me reading and wanting more when I closed the book at the end. I’m looking forward to what Charlaine Harris has in store for us next, but I’m sad we’ll have to wait another year!

As a side note, I absolutely LOVE the True Blood HBO series that is based on Charlaine’s books. I think it’s a fantastic adaptation of the series. Unfortunately, I did not think the same of the adaption of Twilight that hit the big screen. Hopefully, we will see a better rendition of New Moon for the next movie.
